Josephina Kim

Josephina You-Kyung Kim performs internationally as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. 
Among numerous international competitions prizes, she received top winner prize at the prestigious Heida Hermann’s International Competition, the same contest that launched the cello careers of Amit Peled and Rajan Krishnaswami. As a recipient of a full scholarship award, Josephina attended the esteemed Juilliard Pre-College, where, as a winner of the concerto competition she performed the Korngold Cello Concerto with the Juilliard Orchestra at Lincoln Center. At age 15, she was invited to play solo recital at the Carnegie Hall. Josephina graduated with an undergraduate diploma from the Longy School of Music of Bard College as a student of Dr. Terry King, where she won all of the institution’s top honors; most notably, performing Elgar Cello Concerto at Harvard University’s Sanders Theater under the direction of Leon Botstein. A core member of Lyrica Chamber Music, Josephina has performed with Lyrica, ArtsAhimsa, the Yale Cellos, and Philharmonic Orchestra at Carnegie, Lincoln Center, Sanders Theater, and Boston’s Symphony halls. Josephina received Master of Music at the Yale School of Music, and currently is at New England Conservatory in the studio of Laurence Lesser. She has been honored to play for cello luminaries such as Yo-Yo Ma, Aldo Parisot, Ralph Kirshbaum, Sol Gabetta, Matt Haimovitz, and Laurence Lesser. Currently, Josephina is a Co-Principal Cellist of the Lyrica Chamber Orchestra.
